Porcupine
Image ID: ART001A wood engraving of a porcupine in profile.
Displayed in the Arts and Music Dept., Forbes Library. Northampton, Mass.
The fact that our area of Western Massachusetts hosts the most significant community of fine book makers in the United States largely is attributed to the work of Leonard Baskin (1922- ). Internationally lauded graphic artist, painter, and sculptor, he has served as a mentor to many younger artists and has been a catalyst to attract fine talent. Over the years, his Gehenna Press has produced innumerable award-winning books and prints, many of which were gifted to Forbes Library "to preserve even the ephemeral issues of (the) press." Among these is a self-portrait, signed, trial proof, 14" x 12 1/4", which came to Forbes in 1984.
