Henry Collins Bispham
Philadelphia-born painter Henry C. Bispham (1841-1882) lived a brief but active life as a painter, mostly of wild animals and cattle, and as a solider in the Civil War in 1862. His painting in the Forbes collection was done in 1872, before he went to live in Europe. He studied both in Philadelphia and Paris, and was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1879 and at the Royal Academy in London in 1880. At the age of only 42, he died in Rome. A number of his paintings are exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
The provenance of the painting at Forbes is undetermined.
