Barry Moser
Hatfield artist, Barry Moser (1940- ), is acclaimed as one of the foremost wood engravers in the United States. His Pennyroyal Press and Hampshire Typothetae have won numerous awards, including the 1983 American Book Award for Moser's design and illustration of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He originally came to this area to work wit Leonard Baskin; Alan Robinson later was mentored in the art of woodblock carving by Moser.
In the early 1980's, the trustees purchased several Moser prints, including "Alice;" also, a signed wood engraving of "Remembrandt" (34" x 22"), dated 1983; and a signed poster of his book Moby Dick (23" x 13 3/8"). dated 1981. Hi gifts to the Library include signed poster (undated) for "Looking Glass," a play about Lewis Carroll; and a unsigned poster of Conway resident, Archibald MacLeish, on his 90th birthday (unsigned, printed date, 1982).
