Portrait of Thomas Puffer, member of the 21st MA Regiment, Company B. The 1874-75 Northampton Directory lists him as a mechanic living on Vernon St.

Thomas Puffer 21st Regt. - Comrade Thomas Puffer

Who was born the twenty second day of February A.D. 1827 in Belchertown County of Hampshire State of Massachusetts.

 

He first entered the service at Worcester August 14, 1861, as a Private in Co. B. 21 Regt. Mass. Vols and was discharged on account of disability March 18, 1863.

His first battle was at Roanoke Island and he was afterwards in the following engagements: - Newbern, Camden, N.C., Bull Run, South Mountain Antietam and Fredericksburg.

He was for a time confined in the St. Louisa Hospital Washington D.C.

Among his most intimate comrades in the service were Sergt. Frissell, Lieut. Willard and Dan Pierce.
