Private George D. Clark

Portrait of Private Goerge D. Clark, member of the 52nd Regiment. The 1868-69 Northampton Directory lists him as a clerk boarding on Main St. He is buried at Bridge St. Cemetary at 23, Div. 4, Main Ave. He was born on February 22nd, 1837 and died on January 15th, 1931. He was a member of GAR post 86 and was enlisted from September 9th, 1862 to August 14th, 1863.

George D. Clark 52nd Regt. - Comrade George D. Clark

Who was born the twenty second day of February A.D. 1837 in Northampton County of Hampshire State of Massachusetts

He entered the Army at Northampton September 9, 1862 as a Private in Co. C. 52 Regt. Mass. Vols.

October 14, 1862 he was promoted to Hospital Steward and served in that capacity untill [sic] the expiration of his term of service when he was discharged at Greenfield Mass. August 14, 1863.

He was present at the Siege of Port Hudson.

Among his intimate comrades were Henry Nims, Albert Fox and David Sammis.

He was a member of GAR Post 86 and enlisted from September 9th, 1862 to August 14th, 1863.

He was a member of GAR Post 86 and enlisted from September 9th, 1862 to August 14th, 1863.

Arthur B. Noble 52nd Regt. - Comrade Arthur B. Noble

Who was born the twenty ninth day of December A.D. 1832 in Northampton County of Hampshire State of Massachusetts.

 

In ‘62 he entered the service at Northampton as a Private in Co. C 52 Regt. but losing his right eye, he was discharged at Greenfield June 4.

Among his intimate comrades were Ed. Twiss, Lewis Phelps and George Hunt.

He is buried at Bridge St. Cemetary at 142, Div. 4, Walnut Ave. He was born in 1838 and died on April 24th, 1907; he married Anna Burk Hartung in 1868. He was a member of GAR Post 86 and enlisted from September 9th, 1862 to August 14th, 1863.

Alphonse Witherill 52nd Regt. - Comrade Alphonse Witherill

Who was born the seventeenth day of May A.D. 1843 in Northampton County of Hampshire State of Massachusetts

 

He enlisted September 9, 1862 at Northampton as a Private in Co. C. 52 Mass Vols, and was discharged on the expiration of his term of service at Greenfield Mass. Aug. 14, 1863. 

He was present at the battle of Franklin La., and also at the Siege of Port Hudson. The surrender of Port Hudson he considered the most important event is his service.

Capt. H.M. Spaulding, Lieuts. J.R. Hillman, Luther A. Clark and Privates E.J. Smith and Edward A. Stevens were among his most intimate comrades.
